Why is it worth visiting the Majdanek camp?:

  • The Majdanek camp is the best-preserved of all the concentration camps created by the German Nazis on the occupied Polish lands during World War II. More than 150,000 prisoners passed through the camp, mostly Jews and Poles, with other significant groups including Belarusians, Russians, Ukrainians, Czechs, and Slovaks. The number of mortal victims, murdered in the camp, reached more than 80,000 people, among them 60,000 were Jews, and the remaining 20,000 were mostly Poles and Belarusians.
  • The city of Lublin, on the outskirts of which the Majdanek camp is located, was the headquarters of the SS for Operation «Reinhardt» (1942 and 1943) – the extermination of 2 million Polish Jews carried out by the German Nazis – one-third of all Holocaust victims.
